The Yao people migrated from China to Vietnam from around the 12th - 13th century to the first half of the 20th century. They developed cotton growing, weaving, blacksmithing and silversmithing. In terms of clothing, each Yao group has a very different way of dressing and cultural identity. For the Red Yao, the main color in their costumes is red, with many hand-embroidered patterns, red tassels and colorful beads. They believe that red brings happiness and luck.
