The Giay people migrated from China to Vietnam around the beginning of the 19th century. They have a lot of experience in cultivating terraced fields, growing wet rice and many other food crops. Compared to other ethnic groups in the Northwest, the traditional costume of the Giay people is quite simple. Giay women wear five-panel shirts with colorful background fabric in red, pink or blue... The cuffs and edges of the shirts are decorated with prominent fabric lines of different colors. Accessories are often colorful square scarves woven from wool.
