The Lao people in Vietnam are originally immigrants from Laos. They are particularly good at developing small-scale industries. Pottery, brocade weaving, blacksmithing, and silver carving all have high-value products. The Lao people in Lai Chau are called Lao Lu because their dress is quite similar to the Lu people. Lao women wear skirts that are tied across the chest and reach the calves. The hem of the skirt has many colorful patterns. Men's clothing is quite similar to that of the Thai people.
