The Tai Lue people have lived in the Dien Bien area since before the 11th - 12th centuries. They developed weaving and were famous for sword making. Tai Lue women wore indigo shirts with open chests and black skirts with embroidery. They wore black headscarves with 18 decorative white stripes and tassels at both ends. Tai Lue men wore black indigo shirts, buttoned blouses with open chests and patterned pants from the knees down. They wore black scarves with white stripes and wrapped around their heads many times.
