The Mong people have a tradition of intercropping on the fields. They develop the crafts of weaving, blacksmithing, making horse saddles, woodworking, paper making, silverware, and especially weaving from flax. Mong people's costumes are quite different between groups. Flower Mong women wear indigo skirts with beeswax patterns, open-armed shirts, and colored fabric on the shoulders and chest. They often have long hair and wrap it around their heads with wigs. Mong men wear wide-legged black pants to make it easier to climb hills and mountains and dance with the khen.
