The Tho community was formed in the 19th century by Vietnamese, Muong migrants and local people. Therefore, different Tho groups have quite diverse language systems and customs. On normal days, Tho women often wear white blouses with narrow sleeves and white square scarves (some groups wear indigo shirts). Muong mourning scarves are also white but longer. Tho men wear white trousers with a waistband, black silk long dresses and a silk scarf on their heads.
