The Viet ethnic have long settled in the Northern and North Central regions. They developed wet rice agriculture and irrigation very early. Many handicrafts as well as trading systems were developed. In the past, Viet men often wore tea-legged pants, dark-colored blouses, and went barefoot. On holidays, men wore black tunics, turbans, and wooden clogs. Viet women often wore black skirts, blouses, and crow-beak scarves. On holidays, women wore ao dai. According to 2019 data, Vietnam's population structure includes the Viet ethnic group (accounting for 82.32%) and 53 ethnic minorities.
